Most TVs sold these days have a 4k resolution, but a few 8k TVs are available if you want an ultra-high-resolution TV. Before considering an 8k TV, it's important to know that there's very little 8k content available, so most of the content you'll be watching will be upscaled. This means that even though your TV can do 8k, your content won't look any better than on a 4k TV. One usage that can benefit from an 8k panel is PC gaming, as you can choose 8k as your rendering resolution for most recent titles. However, only the most powerful PC rigs can handle rendering recent games at 8k, and even then, you'll likely need to use a GPU upscaler to get playable frame rates. However, even when using one, you'll have terrific image quality, so it might be worth it.
We've bought and tested more than 435 TVs, and below are our recommendations for the best TVs you can buy with an 8k resolution. You can check out our picks for the best TVs and the best movie TVs, and if you want a 4k TV instead, check out our list of the best 4k TVs. The best 8k TV we've tested is the Samsung QN900C 8k QLED. It's a great TV that delivers impressive picture quality, with excellent contrast and very high peak brightness, so it's a great choice for both bright and dark rooms. HDR content looks excellent thanks to its Mini LED local dimming feature, so bright scenes and highlights in HDR content stand out incredibly well. It also has a great wide color gamut with excellent color volume, so colors look vibrant and lifelike.
Although the current-gen consoles don't support 8k gaming, the TV is a future-proof investment for gamers hoping to enjoy the latest games at 8k. If you're a PC gamer with an especially beefy computer, you can take full advantage of what this TV offers, especially with the help of a GPU upscaler. Performance-wise, it's a fantastic gaming TV overall. It supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on all four HDMI ports, has a superb response time that results in crystal clear motion with little blur, and has exceptional low input lag for a responsive gaming experience.
The 2024 Samsung QN900D 8k QLED is now available and is supposed to bring several improvements over its predecessor. This includes a new processor, improved local dimming performance, increased brightness, and better upscaling, all while being more power efficient. Unfortunately, the TV is incredibly expensive at launch. Since its upgrades are likely incremental, you're better off buying the QN900C while it's still available and on sale if you want an 8k TV.
The best mid-range 8k TV we've tested is the LG QNED99 8k. Like the Samsung QN900C 8k QLED, it features a Mini LED backlight and a local dimming feature that delivers deep blacks in dark scenes, but there is noticeable blooming around bright objects. The TV gets bright enough to overcome glare in a moderately lit room, but it doesn't get bright enough to overcome glare in a bright room, and it doesn't get nearly as bright as the Samsung QN900C. It has an excellent wide color gamut, decent color volume, and very good HDR peak brightness, so HDR content looks vibrant and lifelike, with highlights that stand out. It also upscales lower-resolution content well, which is important for an 8k TV since there is very little 8k content available, and most content will need to be upscaled.
The TV supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth for 8k @ 60Hz and 4k @ 120Hz gaming on all four of its inputs, but the lack of VRR support limits its gaming capabilities. Unfortunately, the TV has some uniformity issues, with noticeable dirty screen effect when using it as a PC monitor or when watching sports with large areas of the same color, like hockey and football. It runs LG's webOS, which is easy to use and has a wide selection of streaming apps.

Our recommendations above are what we think are currently the best 8k TVs to buy for most people with different tastes. We factor in the price (a cheaper TV wins over a pricier one if the difference isn't worth it) and availability (no TVs that are difficult to find or almost out of stock everywhere).
If you would like to do the work of choosing yourself, here is the list of all our TV reviews. Be careful not to get too caught up in the details. While no TV is perfect, most TVs are great enough to please almost everyone, and the differences are often not noticeable unless you really look for them.
