The 4 Best Portable Blenders - Summer 2024 Reviews

Best Portable Blenders

Personal blenders are designed to let you blend a single-serve smoothie and then take it on the go. However, if you like to camp, spend a lot of time outdoors, or do a lot of driving, you might want a blender that lets you blend up a smoothie or shake, even if you don't have access to an outlet. That's where portable blenders come in. These battery-powered blenders are generally around the same size as a water bottle, and the whole blender is usually designed for you to carry around, motor base, blades, and all. While the best models can make a pretty good smoothie even if you add difficult ingredients like ice cubes and kale, they aren't very powerful and can't match the performance of conventional blenders.

We've tested more than 105 blenders, and below are our recommendations for the best portable blenders for most people. If blending performance is more important to you than portability, you'll probably want to check out our recommendations for the best personal blenders and best bullet blenders. If you're looking for a battery-powered immersion blender, check out our list of the best immersion blenders.

  1. Best Portable Blender

The Ninja Blast is the best portable blender we've tested. This battery-powered blender is around the same size as a water bottle, so you can easily carry it around on a walk or to the gym, and its blending performance sets it apart from other portable blenders. While it won't match the performance of good plug-in blenders like the Ninja Foodi Power Nutri DUO, it makes a decently smooth blend with fibrous ingredients like fruit and leafy greens, with just some small unprocessed bits left over. Adding a couple of ice cubes into the jar isn't a problem, either.

The blender's motor base has a single control button that lights up in different colors depending on the blender's status. The manufacturer says the battery lasts for about 7.5 minutes of continuous blending (or about 15 blending cycles of 30 seconds each), although, as with any blender, it depends on what you're blending. The 18oz jar and drinking lid are dishwasher-safe, but the blades must be cleaned by hand because you can't remove them from the motor base. This makes the blender difficult to clean by hand since you can't immerse the motor base in water while cleaning the blades.

  2. Best Budget Portable Blender

For a cheaper option, check out the PopBabies Portable Blender. This blender can be difficult to find in stock from online retailers, and its 'updated version,' with a smaller jar, is more readily available. However, the classic version is still available directly from the PopBabies website. This blender's design differs from the previous pick's, with blades fixed inside the jar instead of onto the motor base. That means the blades are always inside the jar, making it harder to clean, especially because the jar's opening is too small to fit your hand into. However, you can use the jar without the motor base attached, so it's a little lighter and smaller for carrying around.

It's not as well-built or quiet as the Ninja Blast but still makes a fairly smooth blend with fibrous smoothie ingredients like leafy greens. The jar opening can't fit regular-sized ice cubes, which is somewhat inconvenient, but the blender comes with a mini ice cube tray to make ice that will fit. A silicone funnel is also included to help add ingredients to the jar. The manufacturer advertises that a full battery provides roughly 20 blending cycles that last 20 seconds each.

  3. Best Portable Blender With Additional Jars

If a few people at home want to use the portable blender, you might prefer the NutriBullet GO. This option from the well-known blender maker costs about the same as the Ninja Blast if you get the version that comes with a pair of 13oz jars. Unlike the previous picks, its design resembles a regular plug-in personal blender, where you flip the jar upside-down to blend. This allows you to easily blend in either jar, and means you don't have to carry the blade assembly and motor base around while enjoying your drink. However, you'll need somewhere to wash and store the blades and base when you're done using them, making it less convenient for on-the-go purposes.

It's the smallest portable blender we've tested, so you can fit it easily in your purse or bag. It's also one of the quietest. It doesn't blend fibrous ingredients as well as the Ninja Blast, and recipes with fruit or leafy greens will have a noticeable grainy texture. Still, running several blending cycles will make an acceptable smoothie with kale or blueberries. It feels well-built and it's decently easy to clean by hand.

  4. Best Portable Blender For Camping

If you're looking for a battery-powered blender for your next RV or camping trip, try the Cuisinart EvolutionX Cordless Rechargeable Personal Blender. This model is bigger and less portable than previous picks but also more powerful, making it a good choice for camping, road trips, and other situations where you don't have constant access to an outlet. This blender's blade assembly, motor base, and jar are all separate pieces, so you'll have to store or carry the motor base in a bag when using the jar as a travel cup.

However, it has some advantages over smaller, more portable options. The manufacturer advertises a 20-minute battery life, the longest on the list. It makes a reasonably smooth blend of fruits and vegetables. It leaves a few more grains behind than the Ninja Blast but processes ingredients faster. It's also the most versatile battery-powered blender on this list: it's the only one to make smooth, spreadable nut butter with a 'full batch' of two cups. Of course, battery-powered blenders aren't ideal for difficult blends since they take a lot of time and deplete the battery faster. However, this one is a good option if you need a blender for your camper or cabin and want more power and versatility.

Notable Mentions

  • BlendJet 2: The BlendJet 2 is less expensive than the Ninja Blast. It makes fairly well-blended smoothies, is easy to clean, and comes in a wide selection of available colors and patterns. However, the manufacturer has recently recalled many units for safety reasons. It's still available for purchase, and new units aren't subject to the recall. That said, they may perform differently because of the design changes. We'll be retesting the updated version once we receive it. See our review

These recommendations are what we think are currently the best portable blenders for most people. We factor in the price (a cheaper blender wins over a pricier one if the difference isn't worth it), feedback from our visitors, and availability (no blenders that are difficult to find or almost out of stock everywhere).

If you want to choose for yourself, here is the list of all our personal blender reviews (including both battery-powered and portable models). Be careful not to get too caught up in the details. While no blender is perfect, most blenders are great enough to please almost everyone, and the differences are often not noticeable unless you look for them.
