The 5 Best Monitors For PS5 - Summer 2024 Reviews

Updated Jul 09, 2024 at 09:39 am
Best PS5 Monitors

When looking for a new monitor for gaming your PS5, it's beneficial to get something that can take full advantage of the console and its features. Monitors with HDMI 2.1 bandwidth can make full use of the PS5 and support any signal from the console. On top of that, having a monitor with HDMI Forum VRR support also helps reduce screen tearing while gaming. The PS5 supports 1080p, 1440p, and 4k signals, so you can get a monitor with any of those resolutions, but a 4k display delivers the most detailed images.

Besides compatibility, getting a monitor with good motion handling is important if you want minimal blur behind fast-moving objects. You should also consider the monitor's input lag, but most have low enough input lag anyway. Many gaming monitors are available in 27 and 32-inch screen sizes, and choosing the right size really depends on personal preference. While you can get an ultrawide monitor, the PS5 doesn't support ultrawide gaming, so you'll see black bars on the sides.

Another thing to consider is whether the monitor has an audio output if you want to connect speakers. While most monitors have one, you'd have to consider alternate connections for monitors that don't. You can plug the speakers directly into the PS5 controller's audio output, connect a compatible USB audio device to the PS5, or attach an HDMI audio extractor between the PS5 and your monitor to get sound.

We've bought and tested more than 320 monitors, and below are our recommendations for the best gaming monitors for PS5 that you can buy. Also, see our recommendations for the best 4k monitors, the best gaming monitors for PS4, and the best 120Hz monitors.

Note: We recently published Test Bench 2.0 and are updating our reviews to reflect this. As such, it may seem that two similar monitors have wildly different scores, but scores aren't comparable between different test benches.

  1. Best Monitor For PS5

The Dell Alienware AW3225QF is the best monitor for PS5 that we've tested. It's a high-end monitor that's one of the first 4k, 240Hz QD-OLEDs available and is incredible for gaming. While the console can't fully use the monitor's fast 240Hz refresh rate, you can still play 4k games up to 120Hz without issue thanks to its HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, and this high refresh rate is also beneficial if you want to connect your gaming PC on the side. On top of that, it has a near-instantaneous response time for crystal-clear motion with fast-moving objects.

Besides its high-end performance for console gaming, it also delivers premium picture quality. HDR games look fantastic, with rich, vivid colors. The monitor has near-perfect contrast, displaying deep blacks next to bright highlights, which is great for playing games in a dark room. However, it doesn't have an analog audio output for speakers. If you want to connect speakers to this monitor, you'll need to use the monitor's eARC connection or get audio from your PS5 another way. If having an analog audio output is important to you, consider the Gigabyte AORUS FO32U2P. It performs very similarly and has an analog audio output, but it also costs slightly more.

  2. Best Upper Mid-Range Monitor For PS5

If you can't afford the best 4k monitor for PS5 but still want a great high-end option, check out the Sony INZONE M9. You don't get the same remarkable picture quality as the Dell Alienware AW3225QF because it's not a QD-OLED, so it can't display the same deep blacks next to bright highlights, but that's what you have to expect for a lower-cost display. The picture quality is still great, as there isn't much blooming in dark scenes, and it also gets bright in HDR.

The Sony monitor has a great response time with both 120Hz and 60Hz signals, resulting in crisp motion. As this is made by Sony, like the PS5, it has a few features only the console can use, like Auto HDR Tone Mapping, which optimizes the HDR performance and settings based on the game. As expected, it works without issue with the PS5 as it supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and VRR to help reduce screen tearing. Lastly, its design shares similarities with the PS5, meaning it'll look great in your setup next to the console.

  3. Best Mid-Range Monitor For PS5

If you still find the Sony INZONE M9 out of your price range, you can get a lower resolution 1440p option like the LG 27GR95QE-B. It's a fantastic deal when it's on sale. Though it doesn't display as detailed an image and text doesn't look as sharp, it has fantastic picture quality and superb compatibility with the PS5. Because of its OLED panel, it displays very deep blacks next to bright highlights, and it displays a wide range of colors in HDR. It also has incredible motion handling, so fast-moving objects look more crisp than on the Sony.

Though it performs extremely well for gaming, there are a few areas where it doesn't do as well as the Sony monitor. Highlights don't pop nearly as much, and it doesn't overcome glare in a bright room. Its colors in HDR also look less vivid. If you're looking for a monitor that can easily overcome glare in a bright room and has exceptionally bright highlights, consider the Acer Nitro XV275K P3biipruzx. It's also cheaper than the LG most of the time. However, it has significant input lag at the 60Hz refresh rate that many games on the PS5 use.

  4. Best Budget Monitor For PS5

If you're looking for the best PS5 monitor on a budget, check out the Acer Nitro XV275U P3biipx. It displays vivid, rich colors in HDR and highlights truly pop. It also gets bright enough to overcome glare in a bright room. Additionally, it has Mini LED backlighting to help it display deep blacks next to bright highlights, which is great for playing HDR games, though it has slightly more blooming around bright objects than the LG 27GR95QE-B.

However, since the Acer is a budget monitor, you have to expect a few trade-offs. Fast-moving objects don't look as sharp as on the LG, and it has some black smearing. This monitor also has far worse viewing angles, so it's not as good for local co-op gaming. Additionally, it doesn't support VRR with the PS5, so some games don't look as smooth. If you'd prefer a monitor with better motion handling, wider viewing angles, and VRR support for the PS5, consider the Dell Alienware AW2724DM. However, deep blacks look gray in a dark room on its display, and highlights don't pop. Additionally, it doesn't have an audio output for hooking up speakers to the PS5.

  5. Best Cheap Monitor For PS5

If you're looking for the best gaming monitor for PS5 and don't have much to spend, consider the Dell G2724D, which you can get for a cheap price directly from Dell's website. It's a step down from the Acer Nitro XV275U P3biipx, so there are a few differences. Colors in HDR don't look as vivid, and deep blacks look gray in a dark room. It also doesn't get bright enough for highlights to pop in HDR, but that's the trade-off you need to make with a cheap display.

Luckily, it has good motion handling, so fast-moving objects look fairly crisp. Additionally, it supports VRR with the PS5 to reduce screen tearing, which is a feature the Acer doesn't have. However, it doesn't have an audio output. As a result, if you want to connect speakers to this monitor, you may want to consider something like the Gigabyte GS27QC, which is another cheap 1440p gaming monitor. That said, it has worse motion handling than the Dell.

Notable Mentions

  • Cooler Master Tempest GP27U: The Cooler Master Tempest GP27U is comparable to the Sony INZONE M9 as it uses Mini LED backlighting and has a 4k resolution. It has a faster response time, which is great for playing games with lots of motion, but this monitor costs more than the Sony. See our review
  • Gigabyte AORUS FO32U2P: The Gigabyte AORUS FO32U2P uses the same QD-OLED panel as the Dell Alienware AW3225QF and performs similarly. However, it tends to cost more than the Dell. You can't go wrong with either option, so it's still a good choice if you can find it for less than the Dell. See our review
  • Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 S32BG75: The Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 S32BG75 is a cheaper alternative to the Sony INZONE M9, which performs similarly for gaming and has a higher contrast ratio. It's a good choice for dark room gaming, but it doesn't have the same proprietary features with the PS5 as the Sony monitor. See our review
  • AOC Q27G3XMN: The AOC Q27G3XMN is an excellent alternative to the Acer Nitro XV275U P3biipx with better motion handling. However, it doesn't get as bright and can be harder to find. See our review
