The 5 Best Small TVs - Summer 2024 Reviews

Best Small TVs

Even though 55-inch and 65-inch TV models have become the most popular sizes, smaller TVs are still important to many people. These sizes are great for a secondary TV, like in student dorm rooms or a guest room, and if you have the space, even in a kitchen. Although you usually won't get the most advanced features or the best picture quality, many decent TVs are still available in smaller sizes.

We've bought and tested more than 440 TVs, and below, you'll find our picks for the best small TVs or the best small smart TVs available. See our recommendations for the best smart TVs, the best 32-inch TVs, and the best 40-42-43 inch TVs, or vote on which TVs you want us to buy and test. To learn more about the 2024 models, check out our 2024 TV lineup page.

  1. Best Small TV

LG's C Series of OLEDs have always been some of the best small TVs you can buy, and the LG C3 OLED is no different, as nothing else comes close to it in this size. It's a fantastic TV with incredible picture quality, deep inky blacks, and high peak brightness. It's available in a few different sizes, down to a 42-inch size that's great for an office or guest bedroom. It has a fantastic selection of extra features, and it has very good image processing that handles low-quality and low-resolution content well. It also supports advanced audio and video formats, which makes it an excellent choice for a small home entertainment setup.

HDR content looks excellent on this TV thanks to the near-infinite contrast ratio of its OLED panel, and its color gamut displays a wide range of colors, so content looks vibrant. Its nearly instantaneous response time makes it great for gaming, resulting in crystal-clear motion with no distracting blur or ghosting behind fast-moving objects. It supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on all four of its HDMI ports, allowing for 4k @ 120Hz gaming, and it also supports all variable refresh rate (VRR) technologies, meaning you can take full advantage of the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or a PC with a recent graphics card.

There's also the newer LG C4 OLED, and like its predecessor, it comes in a 42-inch and 48-inch model. The TV supports up to 4k @ 144Hz for PC gamers and is a bit more accurate in HDR. Unfortunately, the TV is very expensive at launch, and those minor upgrades aren't worth the cost for most people. Unless you plan on using the TV as a PC monitor for gaming, you're better off spending your money on the cheaper C3 while it's still available and on sale.

  2. Best Bright Room Small TV

Current Deal: The Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED 65" has dropped in price by $200 at Amazon.com.

If you mostly watch content in a bright room, an LED TV like the Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED is better than the LG C3 OLED. The Samsung is an impressive TV with amazing picture quality, and it has an incredible peak brightness and a great selection of gaming features. It also has stellar reflection handling, making it easy to see in very bright rooms. It still looks good in a dark room thanks to its high contrast ratio and Mini LED local dimming feature, but there's more distracting blooming around bright highlights in darker scenes when compared to the LG.

It's available in small 43- and 50-inch sizes, and these two models are especially good for gaming, as they support up to 4k @ 144Hz on all four of their HDMI 2.1 bandwidth ports. Sadly, these smaller models have a narrower viewing angle than the bigger ones, so you'll have to sit right in front of them for the best picture quality. The TV also includes VRR to reduce tearing and has very low input lag, making it a fantastic choice for a small gaming room.

The 2024 Samsung QN90D/QN90DD QLED is also available and comes in 43-inch and 50-inch models. It has better contrast and a faster response time than its predecessor. Unlike the QN90C, it uses a VA panel instead of an IPS panel, so it has a narrower viewing angle. Its VA panel uses a BGR subpixel layout instead of the RGB layout found on the QN90C, which causes some text clarity issues. If you plan to use the TV as a PC monitor, the QN90C is the better option since there aren't any issues with text clarity. Its wider viewing angle means you can sit close to the screen, and the edges remain more consistent with the center. The QN90C still provides impressive picture quality for any usage, and it's currently much cheaper. Unless you want the small upgrades the QN90D offers, the cheaper QN90C is the better option for most people.

  3. Best Very Small TV

If you're looking for something smaller than 42 inches, the best very small TV we've tested is the Samsung Q60C QLED. It's available in a wide range of sizes, down to a very small 32-inch model. Although it isn't nearly as good as the LG C3 OLED or Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED, it's one of the few TVs you can buy in a very small size without sacrificing performance or reducing the native resolution. It delivers decent picture quality with an adequate contrast ratio, fantastic black uniformity for deep blacks in a dark room, and very good peak brightness in SDR. It handles glare well thanks to its decent reflection handling, making it a good choice for an office or bedroom with lots of light, especially when watching SDR content.

It has a built-in smart interface with a great selection of streaming apps, so you don't have to worry about buying a separate streaming stick to watch your favorite shows. Sadly, it lacks advanced gaming features like VRR technology to reduce tearing, although that is to be expected for a cheaper model. Although it supports HDR, it doesn't have a local dimming feature and can't get bright enough for HDR content to stand out.

The Samsung Q60D QLED is now available and comes in 32-inch and 43-inch models. It's essentially the same TV but with better HDR peak brightness. It's still not bright enough for an impactful HDR experience, though, and it's quite a bit more expensive than its predecessor. The majority of people are better off saving some money and getting the Q60C while it's still available and on sale.

  4. Best Mid-Range Small TV

If you want a more feature-rich experience than what the budget models provide but don't want to pay much, the Sony X85K is the best mid-range small TV we've tested. Like the LG C3 OLED and Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED, it delivers more premium picture quality than the cheaper models on this list and is available down to a 43-inch size. Thanks to its great SDR peak brightness and good reflection handling, it's a much better choice for a bright living room than the budget and cheap picks. Even in a dark room, it displays deep blacks thanks to its high native contrast ratio, but it lacks a local dimming feature to improve its contrast.

Unlike many mid-range TVs available in a small size, it has gaming features like HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and VRR support. These make it fully compatible with the Xbox Series X and PS5. Even if you don't game and just want to stream your favorite content, the Google TV interface has a ton of apps to download.

  5. Best Budget Small TV

The best budget small TV we've tested is the Roku Select Series. It's just as good as the Samsung Q60C QLED while being cheaper, and it comes in an even wider range of sizes than the Samsung. Unlike the Samsung model, the Roku's smaller 24- and 32-inch sizes are both 720p TVs, and its 40-inch model is 1080p. It's not the brightest TV in HDR, but it's decent for watching movies in a dark room with its adequate contrast, great black uniformity, and excellent color and HDR brightness accuracy. Plus, the TV has very good peak brightness in SDR, which results in a pleasant viewing experience in SDR content. Unfortunately, its image processing is inadequate, so it's not the best choice to watch low-resolution or low-bitrate content on.

It's a good gaming TV if you don't care about advanced features, as it doesn't support VRR and is limited to a 60Hz refresh rate, but it does have a fast response time and very low input lag. It comes with the built-in Roku TV operating system; this has a user-friendly interface that's easy to learn and many apps you can download. It has a good remote with an integrated microphone for voice commands, or you can also give commands through the Roku companion app on your phone. You can also plug headphones into the remote, a great feature at this price point. Overall, the TV is decent and provides a good user experience, especially at its price. Still, if you're a Costco member, you can get the slightly better Hisense A6/A65K for a similar price. But if Costco isn't an option, the Roku is a great choice.

Notable Mentions

  • Amazon 4K43M600A: The Amazon Fire TV Omni Series is a budget-friendly model similar to the Roku Select Series. However, the Roku is cheaper and a bit better due to its better pre-calibration accuracy and faster response time. See our review
  • LG 42LX3QPAU: The LG OLED Flex is a 42-inch TV with a screen that can be curved. It's very good and performs similarly to the LG C3 OLED. However, it's expensive and not a good value overall. Unless you need a bendable screen, the C3 is the better option. See our review

Our recommendations above are what we think are currently the best small TVs or the best small smart TV to buy for most people in each price range. We factor in the price (a cheaper TV wins over a pricier one if the difference isn't worth it), feedback from our visitors, and availability (no TVs that are difficult to find or almost out of stock everywhere).

If you would like to do the work of choosing yourself, here is the list of all our reviews of TVs that are available in 43-inch sizes and smaller. Be careful not to get too caught up in the details. While no TV is perfect, most TVs are great enough to please almost everyone, and the differences are often not noticeable unless you really look for them.
